Power | Northeastern Power Company
Problem:
This municipal utility lost an l.D. Fan due to bearing failure during the month of January, one of the most demanding periods as far as power generation goes. After a Robinson inspection, it was determined that the thrust ring had spun in the shaft groove, destroying both the ring and the shaft groove.
Solution:
Robinson Fans Service, with specialized field machining equipment, arrived on the job site and machined the shaft groove to accept a specially designed thrust ring (which was also designed by our on-site technician). After modification and installation, the unit was reassembled and put back into service.
Result:
The generation plant was down only a mini mum of time and repaired at a fraction of the cost compared to the alternative of removing the entire fan wheel assembly and sending out for repairs.
