Electric Utility | Southeastern Power Plant
Problem
A double inlet forced draft fan in the power plant had one of its
two inlet dampers malfunction, creating uneven air distribution in the air intakes. This uneven air distribution caused the fan wheel to thrust excessively toward one side of the bearing thrust collar, which damaged the contact surface.
Solution
Repair damaged thrust collar in place as the most cost effective solution for the problem.
Result
With the use of our in-field machining capability, Robinson machined and resurfaced the face of the thrust collar to specific bearing tolerance requirements. Final field machining provided the proper surface and alignment for normal operation to resume. The inlet damper problem was also corrected.
